Ted Lasso breaks records in a welcome return for Apple TV

With the usual notes the show seemed to end well with season 3, we (like Apple TV themselves) were very happy to see the show return.

Neilsen data shows how Ted Lasso breaks records

We enjoyed the first few seasons, but with the gap since end of season 3 (May 31, 2023) and the story of the men’s team wrapped up, did wonder if there was enough for (three) more seasons. We followed the news of the return, and watched when episode 1 dropped. First up, Apple TV dropped in their Welcome Back montage, with Ted (Jason Sudeikis) appearing in many of the streamers marquee shows — Slow Horse, Severance, Silo and many not beginning with S, such as Plur1bus. We were happy, Apple TV were happy. What about the audience?

We interrupt this report with the above mentioned welcome back video:

So, how popular was it

Deadline put together a handy summary of the Nielsen numbers (which we’ve edited):

The Season 4 premiere drew 296.6 million viewing minutes in the US across its August 4 and 5 launch window. On August 5 alone, the season debut was the most-streamed program in the US with more than 200 million viewing minutes.

It was Apple TV’s biggest ever premiere. Will the numbers be sustained? We will keep our eyes peeled. Until then, there’s the first two episodes to rewatch. BELIEVE.
