Netflix has dropped an official teaser trailer for The Witcher season 4 — inevitably all the focus is on the first appearance of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia

We now know The Witcher season 4 starts October 30 on Netflix. And yes, we now have our first look at Liam Hemsworth in the role Henry Cavill made his own. Inevitably, many fans are decrying the result, raking over the departure of Cavill and damning everyone in sight for various failings. Of course, fans live in echo chambers and the real test will be audience figure. Until then, all we have is fewer than two minutes of teaser to dissect.

The teaser

You can judge for yourself below, but this is clearly Hemsworth playing Geralt, not Hemsworth playing Cavill playing Geralt. There’s magic, undead, sword play and the sort of dark forest setting we’ve seen before. The hair is about right, but this is clearly not the same actor. If you can’t move past that, you can already look forward to despising the season when it arrives. While we also feel Cavill’s performance was definitive, we’re also interested to see how the story emerges, what happens with other main characters (particularly Ciri played by Freya Allan and now using a new name, Anya Chalotra’s Yennefer of Vengerberg and Joey Batey’s Jaskier). We also note some new companions at least for this scene.
