An episode of extremes if ever we saw one: part teenage wet dream, part parental nightmare. And the two are not necessarily related. Kicking off with a heartfelt rendition of their song ‘Filthy Woman’, the like of which we’ve not yet experienced, this episode takes us deeper into the friendship between Rich and Alo. Their rapport is more authentic than most, and as a result worthy of exploration.

This week’s central character, Rich, now separated from his heart’s desire, must come to terms with her absence. Or alternatively go to all lengths to try and contact her. This is not making band practice fruitful or easy. In an attempt to counter this – thus largely driven by self interest – Alo appears to save the day.

Rich, displaying traditional symptoms of teenage angst, which no doubt some viewers will relate to; has holed up in Grace’s now deserted house pining over her baby videos. Alo simply won’t stand for this moping; it’s not healthy, and besides they have a music industry to conquer.

Ever the source of unadulterated entertainment, Alo returns to form with various rather misguided plans to cheer up his best chum. Oh, and he continues to noisily shag Mini whilst Rich is busy trying to brood.

Throwing a concert in the elegantly furnished and now empty Blood House results in a bout of anarchy most teenagers could only dream of and is certainly a viewing highlight. Another is Chris Addison’s performance as Professor Blood. Initially unconvinced, those painfully high-waisted trousers have won me round. Following an unexpected turn of events he shows surprising sincerity.

The dialogue is much less hammy than the series opener with the exception of a few spectacularly ridiculous oddballs from Grace, but we can forgive her, she’s not been well. We do, however, object to her declaration that the moment has come for Rich to prove his love by – you guessed it – finding her in Switzerland… without an address… or any money… It’s asking quite a lot really.

From wild revelry to profound misery, this episode brings emotion by the baggie load. What is certainly clear is that particular parts must have been an absolute blast to film. Viewers should be prepared for some affecting extremes that challenge the status quo in what is an admirable follow up to the last week’s series opener.
