Despite the recent trend for shoving it somewhere unexpected, such as at the end of the movie (Quantum of Solace) or after the pre-credit sequence in a tatty bathroom (Casino Royale), the opening gun-barrel sequence is one thing that almost everyone in the known universe agrees should be restored to its rightful place in the next James Bond movie: the opening of the first reel.

Whether the producers of Skyfall are in accordance with the rest of the cosmos remains to be seen, but in the meantime, here’s a compilation of all the ones that came before, from the beginning of Dr No via Roger Moore’s flapping flares through to the end of the unfairly maligned QoS.
