Call the Midwife‘s third series is currently airing on BBC One at 8pm on Sunday nights.

Following on from the bestselling Call the Midwife and Shadows of the Workhouse, Jennifer Worth brings her story to a conclusion in Farewell to the East End. Post-war life could be a struggle – the devastating effects of TB, dangerous backstreet abortions, people driven to extremes by poverty – but there was also warmth and humour. Farewell to the East End shines a light on the lives, culture and stories of a bygone era, and is both moving and heart-warming in equal measure.

All Change for Nurse Millie sees Nurse Millie returns to delight readers with more tales from London’s East End. Nurse Millie Sullivan is now Nurse Millie Smith, having married aspiring MP Jim Smith. The war has ended and the NHS has just come into action, so the nurses are busier than ever as the community realise that they no longer have to pay for the services. Minor ailments need attention, babies need to be helped into the world and some of the larger-than-life characters need keeping in line so Millie has enough drama to deal with without having to deal with more from home . . . and Alex Nolan, her ex-fiance, is back in town.
