Imagine how long that will keep your children occupied for. Well you don’t need to imagine…its 3240 minutes. Or 54 hours! Just think what you could get done in that time….maybe even conceive another!
Created by Belgian cartoonist Peyo Culliford in 1957, The Smurfs began it’s worldwide takeover in America through The Wallace Berrie Company, who obtained rights to The Smurfs in 1979, releasing figurines at $1.50 each.
In 1981, having seen how much his daughter liked a Smurf doll she had been given, NBC President Fred Silverman thought a Smurfs cartoon based on the Belgian comic series would make a good addition to his Saturday-morning lineup (along with other classics such as Scooby-Doo and Charlie’s Angels) turning it in to one of the most successful cartoons ever.
This competition has now closed. The winners are Samuel Adams from Enfield and Janet McKenzie from Cambridge.
