Siren season 2 officially ordered by Freeform

Siren season 2 is officially happening, with American cable network Freeform announcing the show’s renewal. The series has made a huge splash with regards to ratings, becoming the Freeform network’s most-watched series and having particular success with female viewers in the 18-34 and 12-34 demographics.

Diving into the darker side of the mermaid legend, Siren sees Eline Powell playing a mermaid character named Ryn, a ruthless hunter that comes to dry land in search of her sister. The show is set in the coastal town of Bristol Cove, which plays host to a strong cast including Alex Roe and Sibongile Mlambo.

Freeform has rewarded Siren for its success by giving the show a longer run for season 2: the first season consisted of 10 episodes, but the second run of Siren will have 16.

Elsewhere on Freeform, The Bold Type has been renewed for its second and third seasons, The Fosters is getting a spinoff series, and Beyond has been cancelled after two seasons.

Here in the UK, Siren season 1 is airing on Syfy, with episodes appearing on the NowTV streaming service after their televised debut on Thursday nights. We assume that the series will stick with this UK set-up for its second season, although we don’t know that for sure as of yet.

We’ll keep you posted as we hear more. If the ratings stay strong, we assume that Siren is a show could be swimming onto our screens for quite a long time.
