Mum, the BBC’s acclaimed sitcom starring Academy Award nominee Lesley Manville, is set to finish next year after its third and final series…
The most recent second series ended with newly widowed Cathy, played by Manville, confessing her feelings to love interest Michael, played by Peter Mullan, much to the annoyance of her son Jason, played by Sam Swainsbury.
The news was broken by Lisa McGrillis, who played Jason’s girlfriend, as filming on the third season wrapped.
With a lump in my throat and a heavy heart, Its impossible to believe that today is the Last day EVER filming #Mum what a joy it has been and boy oh boy are you in for a treat. @bigtalk @bbccomedy @kentonallen @SamSwainsbury

Swainsbury responded to her tweet with a few crying-face emojis while a spokesperson for producer Big Talk confirmed to Chortle, who broke the news, that ‘the new series will be the finale and transmission will be next year’.
The Social Network producer Scott Rudin is scripting an American remake of the sitcom starring Lady Bird‘s Tracy Letts.
