Perhaps in Arthurian times when there were knights and handsome princes going on quest after quest together, bromance was at an all-time high. Or maybe that’s just what BBC One’s Merlin has led us to believe…
Coming in at number two, from the very defining episode ‘His Father’s Son’, we have a lot of tense moments where we see Arthur trying to stand on his own two feet, as the newly crowned King.
Before the big one-on-one fight, on which the fate of Camelot rests, Merlin and Arthur prepare together, and again they fight their emotions with jokes and teasing. It is one of those moments when they let down their guard and we see how much the pair really mean to each other.
Taking first place, it has to be in ‘The Diamond of the Day: Part 2’ where everything we have been waiting for in the development of Merlin and Arthur’s relationship comes to light, sadly before it all goes dark.
In the lead up to our Number 1 heart-breaking moment, we are faced with our final camp fire scene talk; a Merlin classic. And if you don’t know which words we’re talking about then grab some tissues and have a rewatch, paying particular attention to when Arthur tells Merlin, ‘I want you to always be you.’
Not wanting to leave this on such a heavy note, we can’t end this without a shout out to the bromance of the knights, which is undeniable, whether it’s amongst each other or with Merlin (he’s a bit of a one for his bromances, that lad).
