Every ‘Sherlock’ episode ever ranked from worst to best

Let’s take a look back at all 13 episodes of Sherlock so far, ranked from worst to best…

2. ‘The Lying Detective’

This eleventh-hour heavyweight has soared to the top end of the list, with both Moffat and Hurran delivering some career-best work. The Jimmy Savile analogue of Culverton Smith took Sherlock to some darker places than it had ever gone before, whilst outstanding performances from Cumberbatch, Freeman and Toby Jones, and the always-inventive direction on peak form, help secure this as one of Sherlock’s finest hours.

1. ‘A Scandal in Belgravia’

Unlikely to ever be beaten, this behemoth of an episode is simply one of the most dazzlingly constructed pieces of television BBC One has aired in the last decade. It’s tight, it’s funny, it’s clever, it’s moving, and it probably walks the famous line between heart and head better than any other Sherlock story. A true gem.
