‘Are You Right there, Father Ted’ (Series 3, ep 1)
The near-faultless third series of the show began with an episode which saw Ted dig himself into an increasingly deep hole.
Having been accused of being a racist, following an ill-advised impression of a Chinese person, Ted’s attempts to disprove the accusation only seem to make things worse. An ill-placed speck of dirt – which makes it appear as he is impersonating Adolf Hitler – and a cultural insensitive slideshow involving Mr Miyagi certainly don’t help his case either. The Craggy Island locals are as impressionable as ever meanwhile, with one eventually muttering the immortal line, “I hear you’re a racist now, Father”.
It’s another unapologetically silly episode of the show that showcases its great fondness for a colossal comedy of errors.
