Kicking Bishop Brennan Up The Arse (Series 3, ep 6)

Bishop Len Brennan is a wonderful minor character, an angry and unscrupulous cleric who Ted is utterly terrified of.

This episode followed on directly from Ted losing the ‘All Priests Over-75 Five-a-Side Football Championship’ to Dick Byrne’s team in the previous outing. His forfeit for doing so? Kick the aforementioned Bishop “up the arse”.

It’s always funny to see Ted teetering on the edge of insanity and he always comes into his own when desperate times call for him to take desperate measures. He gets so desperate in this instance, in fact, he even listens to Dougal’s advice and opts to simply kick Brennan up the arse and just act like nothing ever happened.

The episode’s great payoff though comes just when it looks like Ted might have got away with it after all, only for the truth to emerge in the most unexpected way imaginable.
