Here the show’s writers introduce the new series…
“[Series] 2 was frightening even before we started talking about it. Not just because we wanted it to deliver even bigger scares than before, or because we were going to do it by introducing exciting new characters – but because we knew that fans were ready to do very bad things to us if we didn’t answer the questions left dangling at the end of series 1: what happened to Jed? Who was that weird bald man? Who abducted the missing girls? So this new series is also a new beginning.
“Our four incoming residents have no idea of the horror lurking in their new home, or how their own deepest secrets are intertwined with it. Ellie, Max, Kiera and Dan are really here to find out the truth about themselves. Luckily for us, they have to uncover the truth about Jed and co to get to it.
“With these six new episodes, we wanted to go deeper into the mythology of Bedlam Heights. But we also wanted the series to have an earthier tone that’s more rooted in the real, and that’s reflected in the real strength of our new cast – in particular Ellie, a regular girl with some irregular problems, played with incredible conviction by Lacey Turner.
“We know that audiences loved the ghost stories of the week and we’ve relished thechallenge of finding exciting new ways of delivering them. In doing so, we’ve chosen to prey on our own contemporary fears. Ghost stories play on doubt, the deep-rooted fear that even in your luxury super-secure hi-tech home, something bad could happen.
“Something you can’t control, something from your own past maybe. Something could take it all away from you. And in these times of great uncertainty, the doubts are more real than ever. If that sounds dark and frightening, well, hopefully it is!
“But if we’ve tried to make our unsuspecting Bedlamites’ nightmares even more real, we’ve also tried to inject some more fun and warmth into their relationships. Ellie is a regular girl trying to deal with a terrifying and inexplicable ordeal. Max is an underachieving guy suddenly pushed into doing heroics. Their real strength is their friendship, a friendship laced with complicated sexual tension.
“Joining them is Dan, seemingly a go-getting womaniser – but who’s harbouring the biggest secret of them all – and Kiera, a fabulously enjoyable emotional car crash of a girl. Holding everything together is Warren from the first series, who will finally reveal the building’s secrets…
“We hope that you enjoy [Series] 2 and more importantly that it scares the pants off you. And if it does leave you worrying that you think you just saw something out the corner of your eye, something that shouldn’t be there, something a bit wrong, feel free to find us on Twitter and let us know – we’ll happily reassure you that IT’S PROBABLY JUST WHAT YOU’RE AFRAID IT IS….!”
