Festival season is almost upon us!
As more British music fans than ever combine their fest-going plans with a trip to the continent and with Flybe flying to over 20 destinations, we decided to share our top tips for this summer.
All Tomorrow’s Parties: Iceland 2015
Where?
Fly into Reykjavik then head to Ásbrú; the former NATO base in Keflavík, which dates back to 1941! It’s also only 15 minutes away from the famous Blue Lagoon and 30 minutes from the centre of Reykjavík, so you can be sure to pack in some memorable moments during your Iceland stay.
When?
Thursday 2 July until Saturday 4th July, with music from 7pm to 2am each day.
Who?
The epic line-up for Iceland’s third All Tomorrow’s Parties festival sees Iggy Pop, Drive Like Jehu, Belle and Sebastian, Public Enemy, Swans and Godspeed You! Black Emperor joined by the likes of Run The Jewels, Mudhoney, Loop, Lightning Bolt, Bardo Pond, Kiasmos, HAM, Ghostigital, Ought, Clipping, The Bug, Younghusband, Xylouris White, Deafheaven, Iceage, Chelsea Wolfe, The Field, White Hills, Oyama, Vision Fortune, Grísalappalísa, Valdimar, Stafrænn Hákon, Mr Silla, Kippi Kaninus, Tall Firs, Grimm Grimm.
Why?
All Tomorrow’s Parties events have been held since 2000 from the UK to Spain, Australia to Japan and the USA. A boutique festival described as the “ultimate mix tape”, ATP aims to go against the grain of the larger commercial music festivals, with an intimate capacity of just 5,000 people.
Dekmantel Festival 2015
Where?
Fly into Amsterdam then head to Camping Het Amsterdamse Bos if you’re up for camping during your stay. Close to the city centre and the heart of the festival, the campsite is located on the southern rim of the beautiful Amsterdam forest.
When?
The four-day festival kicks off on Thursday 30 July at the Muziekgebouw, a concert hall on the banks of the Amsterdam river ‘t IJ, followed by an extensive night program at the Melkweg in Amsterdam’s city centre and an outdoor day program at Amsterdamse Bos from Friday 31 July to Sunday 2 July.
Who?
Manuel Göttsching’s ‘E2-E4′ and Autechre launch proceedings on the Thursday night. Day highlights over the weekend include Ben Klock, Carl Craig (live), Dixon, Four Tet, Jeff Mills, Madlib (dj set), Marcel Dettmann, Model 500 (live), Nina Kraviz and Ricardo Villalobos, while the nights’ line-up features Andy Stott (live), Answer Code Request (live), Basic Soul Unit, Boris Werner, Call Super, Dekmantel Soundsystem, Deniro, Derrick May and DJ Fett Burger.
Why?
Despite adding two new festival locations to this year’s program, the organisers are still pitching Dekmantel as an “intimate and small-scaled event” focusing on the biggest leftfield names in electronic music.
NOS Primavera Sound 2015
Where?
Fly into Porto, Portugal’s second-largest city, then head to the Parque da Cidade, the country’s largest urban park. Right by the sea, it’s easily accessible by public transport and the perfect location for the festival. A number of hostels, guesthouses, hotels and apartments are available nearby, as well as there campsites.
When?
The three-day festival runs from Thursday 4 June to Saturday 6 June.
Who?
The line-up sees Patti Smith, Interpol, Antony and the Johnsons, Underworld and The Replacements joined by Run The Jewels, Damien Rice, Belle & Sebastian, Caribou, Einstürzende Neubaten and Death Cab for Cutie.
Why?
The fourth edition of NOS Primavera Sound will feature Patti Smith interpreting her iconic 1975 album ‘Horses’ (in full!). Do you really need another reason?
