As part of last weekend’s launch at London’s BFI for new action adventure series Sinbad, which begins on Sky1 at 7pm this Sunday evening, some of the cast and crew were in attendance for a Q&A after the screening and spent half an hour answering questions from the kids in attendance. Elliott Knight, in particular, did a particularly good job of engaging the young audience.
Here are some of the highlights…
Andrew Woodhead, Executive Producer: “This genre, action adventure, people have got used to watching these big movies, and our ambition is to make it feel like a movie every week.”
Marama Corlett, who plays Rina “I hadn’t done any underwater scenes before, and I have a little bit of a phobia of being underwater. But we had professionals who taught us how to use a regulator to breathe… It’s quite fun, actually. When you get used to it, you want to stay under there!”
Elliott Knight, who plays Sinbad: “I think what’s different about our series is that – there have been films about Sinbad before – and in those he’s a grown up man, and you assume he knows what he’s doing, he has a sense of himself. He’s just off having adventures for no reason. But in our version we start off with Sinbad before he’s a sailor. He’s just a boy, with friends and a family that he cares about.”
Evanna Lynch, who plays Alehna: “It was completely different, doing a TV series to a film. With Harry Potter we always knew what was coming, from the books, whereas this was a lot more unpredictable. It was a lot fun.”
Elliott Knight: “I nearly drowned! The storm scene in the first episode… this huge wave took over me and I fell down the hatch-hole, down the stairs, and just disappeared into the boat. So that was pretty dangerous”.
Evanna Lynch: “In terms of just the cast and the family feel, that was the same [as Harry Potter]. When I came on set, I felt really welcome, I felt like everyone was so happy to be there. It didn’t feel like work!”
