Game of Thrones is undeniably one of the most popular TV shows ever.
The creators have managed to do something so special in that they have created a believable universe that people talk about as if it was a soap opera. The popularity of the show has led to lucrative film deals for actors involved, toy figures, board games, computer games and slot machines. As fans eagerly await the new season of the show, there are plenty of ways to get a GoT fix in the meantime.
Even if you are not a fan of Game of Thrones, you probably know some things about it. It’s hard to avoid, with people at work, in the street, maybe in your home, discussing the biggest plot twist in television history. Is Jon Snow really dead? The show that is infamous for brutally dispatching its best loved characters in the cruellest of ways, punished fans at the end of the last season by possibly killing off the show’s most popular protagonist.
As the TV show had caught up with the book, readers were unable to shed any light on the young Night’s Watch Commander’s fate, so fans began the agonising wait until April 2016 to find out what would happen.
This was not such bad news for fans, because they were able to enjoy what has become such a hugely successful franchise, in different ways.
Game of Thrones slots
You know that something has finally made it when it gets recreated in the form of a slot machine. Slot machines are one of the most popular casino games in the world, and because of that, there are thousands of different themes to appeal to all different kinds of gamer. The Game of Thrones slot is a lot of fun for fans of the show, and fans of exciting, epic slots alike.
The game is available at 32red Australia, Lucky win slots, and Sun Vegas casino, and on these sites players have the opportunity to play for free or with real cash. It is a 5-reel slot with 243 ways to win, and as with all slots at 32red and others, it gives players the chance to play for low or high stakes.
The game features the classic music from the show, and follows a lot of the same themes. The Iron Throne symbol activates the main feature of the game which is the free spins round, and players can also flip a coin and visit certain locations in Westeros from the show. It also features the sigils of the major houses in Westeros; Houses Stark, Targaryen, Lannister, and Baratheon.
Figures and games
If slot machines aren’t your thing, you could instead go about collecting the figures of all the major characters from the show. These could be placed around the house to remind you of the ones you have loved and lost, or you could set them up and recreate the legendary battles from the show.
There are also puzzle games available, in which gamers can choose their own character and lead them through sets of challenges on the journey towards becoming king. The board game may be the most sociable thing to do, as 3-6 players can play as each of the main houses and vie for control of the Iron Throne. This requires not just military might, but strategic planning and clever card play as well.
Remember, in Westeros the more ruthless characters seem to end up on top-something to bear in mind when playing with friends.
Not long left to wait
Game of Thrones is set to return on 24 April 2016, so fans do not have too long left to wait. There is much speculation about what will happen in the first episode, as there were quite a few cliff-hangers at the end of last season that left a lot of key questions unanswered.
The big news is that the trailer (see above) shows that Bran Stark will be making a return after a season long hiatus. His comeback may be pivotal in deciding the fate of Jon Snow, but watch this space. Until then, make the most of the plethora of other ways to enjoy the franchise.
