BBC rolls out additional programming around the Gavin & Stacey finale

Gavin & Stacey: The Finale airs on Christmas Day 2024. The 90 minute special promises to draw the stories of the Shipman and West families to a close.

In 2019, the show’s Christmas outing dominated the festive ratings like a tinsel covered colossus. It raked in 17.1 million viewers (including catch up) and BBC are doubtless hoping for a similar outcome this year.

To that end, they are supporting the festive finale with a documentary and two radio shows.

Gavin & Stacey: A Fond Farewell

This uplifting and touching documentary special tells the story of one of Britain’s best loved sitcoms as it comes to an end after 17 years. It charts the journey of a little-known sitcom that started life on BBC Three which, with its blend of relatable characters and infectious catchphrases, grew into a must watch show that captivated the hearts of the nation.

Featuring unprecedented access to creators James Corden and Ruth Jones as well as the cast and crew as they film the final episodes together as they all say goodbye to this much cherished show.

We’ll also hear from an array of celebrity fans who have their say on the show’s influence on British society and why they believe Gavin & Stacey is the best show on TV.

Gavin & Stacey: A Fond Farewell will air on BBC One and the iPlayer.

Ahead of the most anticipated TV event of the festive season presenter Alex Jones relives some of the key musical moments of Gavin & Stacey through behind-the-scenes stories from the cast, including exclusive interviews with James Corden, Joanna Page and Larry Lamb.

Gavin & Stacey – The Fans’ Story

She’ll hear from the superfans who gathered on the seafront and on Trinity Street to greet the cast as they filmed the final scenes; from Radio Wales listeners, TV critics, plus a range of celebrities telling us about their favourite moments from the series.
