The first look images and extended cast list have been released for the new series for the BBC, here’s what we know so far:

This brand-new drama series from the BBC boasts experience and talent in front of, and behind, the camera. Recent announcements have shown a series of first look images from different episodes as well as a fuller cast list than previous releases. More clues about the characters and overall story, as well as the atmosphere, have been revealed with this latest series of stills take straight from the episodes themselves.

What’s it about?

The story for this drama takes place in the 1970s, set in a caravan park riddled with sand and dust clinging to the mobile homes. Secluded by the canal, the sleepy peace the community had grown into is very much interrupted when an eleven year-old girl and her mother arrive. The pair are on the run from an external threat, looking for a secretive place where nobody would come looking for them, and this place seems to be offering everything that they’re looking for. Trying to integrate with their new homeland, the pair bring about changes which heal old fractures and help bring about new relationships and give them an opportunity to blossom.

Who’s in it?

The cast list for California Avenue includes Bill Nighy (Living), Helena Bonham Carter (The Crown), Erin Doherty (Adolescence), Tom Burke (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga), Kate Robbins (After Life), Paul Kaye (Small Prophets) and Cammie Liebreich.

Who’s behind it?

The series is created, written and directed by Hugo Blick (The Honourable Woman).
