Which are better: The Star Wars games or the Star Wars movies? Join us as we take a closer look at both and find out for sure!
Games vs Movies
We know that there are a lot of Star Wars fans out there that are going to have a lot of opinions on this, whichever way we jump. So instead of trying to please everyone, we’re going to give you our honest opinion on whether the Star Wars games (and there are many of them) are better than the new films or not! The new trilogy of sequels began in 2015 with Episode VII: The Force Awakens. We meet Rey, a plucky loner living on a desolate planet, scraping by and hoping that her parents will come back to get her one day. Enter Fin, a Storm Trooper who went rogue and crash-landed on Rey’s planet. The pair make a great team, and Rey accompanies Fin off-world to get a very important droid carrying vital information to the rebels. The first instalment of the new trilogy really lit a fire in the hearts of Star Wars fans again and, as is only natural with sci-fi films of this magnitude, also brought about a new wave of Star Wars video games. We’re sure that there are even some online casino games out there influenced by the Star Wars films! The new titles introduced by Lucasfilm were truly remarkable, but they didn’t leave the old classics out in the cold either.

Our answer to the title question; the games stack up pretty well against the new trilogy, and they’re even better in some cases! We’re going to prove our point and leave no one in doubt, so let’s take a look at a few of the video game titles that we think are better than the films.
Jedi: Fallen Order
Initially released in 2019, the events of Jedi: Fallen Order take place about five years after the Revenge of the Sith. The protagonist in the game, a young padawan called Cal Kestis, is relentlessly pursued by the Empire due to his immense Force abilities. This game is an award-winning title, and it’s easy to see why; the complex lore that the writers have introduced really pulls you into the game world. The writers manage to capture the abject terror that spread like a disease through the galaxy when the Emperor rose to power. Cal begins his journey, naturally, as a reluctant vessel for the Force. Players can use an exciting range of customizable lightsabers, and incredible force abilities as Cal’s trust in himself and the Force begins to grow.

Jedi Outcast
If you’re a fan of an excellent old-fashioned light-sabre duel, then you’ll already know this title well. Jedi Outcast is well known in the game universe as the Star Wars title with some of the best duelling mechanics in the entire Star Wars universe. Depending on the type of weapon you choose to play with, the perspective shifts between first and third-person, and there’s a multiplayer mode for those who are a little more competitive. The events of Jedi Outcast take place about eight years after those of Return of the Jedi. Kyle Katarn is our hero this time, and he’s a mercenary for the New Republic. As the game progresses, we learn that Kyle is actually a former Jedi who cut ties with the Force after almost letting himself slip into the Dark Side.
The Old Republic
If you’re an MMORPG fan, then this one’s for you. This game is set quite some time before any of the Star Wars films, in a time when the Sith were still rising to power. The Old Republic won critical acclaim for its complex and incredibly compelling storyline, and it still holds up. You can play as several different species or classes. Every character comes with their own unique starship, which means you can re-play the game as other characters for a completely new experience.

Battlefront 2
The twelve different online play modes that you’ll find in Battlefront 2 mean that you’ll never get bored playing this game. In the Battlefront 2, you can relive some of your favourite film moments in an incredibly detailed format featuring some of your most loved characters. The single-player campaign in the game takes place after Return of the Jedi and before The Force Awakens, and it’s garnered the title several awards, the Game Critics Best Online Multiplayer game award chief among them. It’s an impressive title that was initially released in 2017.
Final Word
We know that there will be those out there who will disagree with us, but that’s life in the game world! The titles we’ve mentioned here are all well worth a try if you haven’t played them already. There are several Star Wars titles that deserve special mentions as well:
- Knights of the Old Republic
- Squadrons
- Episode 1 Racer
Check these titles out when you have a chance, and maybe you’ll agree with us that these games are way better than the films.
