Ever since Daniel Craig announced he would not be reprising his role as James Bond after “No Time To Die”, the rumour mill has been churning in overdrive. Who will take up the mantle of 007 and start the new era of James Bond? One candidate has been a fan favourite already for years: Idris Elba is among the possible actors who might follow in the footsteps of Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. While nothing is decided yet, producer Barbara Broccoli recently said Elba was part of the conversation. Could the “Luther” star jump into the Aston Martin next?

Idris Elba is part of the conversation

Craig’s tenure as James Bond has come to an end. “No Time To Die” hit cinemas with a bang after many delays in autumn last year. Despite a few flaws, fans of Daniel Craig’s Bond should have enjoyed his last outing as the world saviour on her Majesty’s secret service, which brought his decade-and-a-half-long era to an explosive end. Now the big question remains: who will take up the mantle?

Idris Elba, known for his work on the television crime series “Luther” and “The Wire” is often tipped as one of the favourites to follow Craig. A lot of fans want to see the Londoner in a 007 tux. Even though in autumn of last year Elba said he would not be James Bond, the possibility of him taking up the mantle has recently been revived with Broccoli telling Deadline’s CrewCall podcast in January, Elba “has been part of the conversation”. Elba was first rumoured as a possible future Bond back in 2010 when he was 37. He’s now 49, and even though he said he considered himself too old for the role, there’s no denying he would be interested: when asked if he would like to play Bond, he said “who wouldn’t?” So, could he be stepping into the tux soon?

Who else is in the running?

While Idris Elba has been among the top favourites to take up the 007 mantle, many candidates have thrown their hats into the ring. From “Venom” star Tom Hardy to “Loki” actor Tom Hiddleston and “Bodyguard” star Richard Madden, many possible successors are in the running. Another favourite is “Man of Steel” actor Henry Cavill. He was already among the favourites in 2005 and only came in second after Craig for the iconic role. Could he make the cut this time? Or could it be the first Scottish James Bond since Connery? “Outlander” star Sam Heughan is also in the running to step into the tux and sip on a freshly shaken Martini soon.

The iconic character will return

It will still be a while until Broccoli and Eon Productions will announce who will be the next James Bond. But what we do know, is that the iconic character we have come to love over the past six decades will return, and we can expect to see his usual traits and acts again. Bond jumping in a sleek Aston Martin, speeding through cities in thrilling car chases, boasting his collection of gadgets, and besting even the evilest of super villains, are all things we’re expecting to see again. And he does all this in style, wearing a tuxedo with a beautiful woman by his side. There’s also always time for a Martini (shaken, not stirred), and for a visit to a glamorous casino. Casino scenes have long been a staple in the 007 films, showing the secret agent play table games such as baccarat, poker, and roulette. The card game baccarat is one of his favourite games he plays in several films. There is no doubt he has helped the popularity of the game, which is now a standard game found at casinos both online and offline across the world. Nowadays, a wide variety of casino games such as roulette, blackjack, and baccarat are easily accessible through online platforms, which are regularly tested and reviewed by experts so that players can get a complete picture of what each operator has to offer and weigh the advantages and disadvantages before deciding to sign up. This includes game information such as developers, promotions, and payment methods. With that, the elegance of the casino, which is often depicted in Bond films, has transcended into the digital age of today. Which game will the new agent 007 play in his next film?

Craig’s James Bond era has ended. Who will follow in his footsteps? Could Idris Elba be the one? While we most likely won’t get an answer to this question anytime soon, we can rest assured the rumour mill will keep churning to drive our anticipation continuously higher.
