Movies That Nobody Thought Would Succeed

Posted Filed under

Hollywood, as put together as it might seem to some individuals, is a place that can be a complete disaster sometimes. Between finding funding for movies, arguments between cast and producers, and tensions on the set, it seems a true miracle that most movies get made. This is especially true when you throw together some of the biggest names in the industry. Who has more of an ego? That being said, it is also a place where the more you learn, the more amazing everything seems. Simply put, there is a lot that goes into making a single movie. Not only this, but there is a lot that can go into making a movie successful. Sometimes it is just pure luck, sometimes it has to do with the story, and sometimes it has to do with the people involved in the making of the money.

There are also those movies that people think will make a million and turn out making nearly nothing. Then you have those movies that nobody thinks would make it anywhere and they turn out to make millions. Even make careers. That’s what you’re going to discover below. Movies that nobody thought would make it anywhere but ended up making millions. Heck, these movies are still making money to this very day.

Dirty Dancing

Although Patrick Swayze died at what some would consider an early age, this movie is so old that its main actor has come and gone. It is actually the movie that introduced Mr. Swayze to the world. The movie didn’t get much praise during production or after for that matter. In fact, during the test screening, someone said to burn the movie and collect on the insurance. It turns out that this movie went on to make $214 million at the box office on a budget of $6 million. Now, that’s a turn around that anyone can be happy with.

The Blair Witch

This wouldn’t be a list without mentioning Blair Witch. Lost of people did hate the movie, but it was the “found footage” concept that really horrified millions and continues to horrify them today. It didn’t take long before word spread about how scary this movie was and the fact that the movie was supposed to be filed by an amateur filmmaker threw the low budget setting right out the window. In fact, it helped it if anything. Do you know that old saying, less is more? That couldn’t be truer in the sense of the Blair Witch. If you don’t believe so check out the book of dead based slot game, and you’ll see that although this is a basic slot game with minimal features, it’s currently one of the most entertaining and lucrative slot games that you can take advantage of.

Mad Max

Do you remember when Mel Gibson was an unknown? Don’t worry because many don’t either. However, Mad Max was made and produced at a time when the actor was known to few, far, and wide. This was one of the first movies of its kind as it focused on a post-apocalyptic setting. No one thought the movie would make money, and this much did ring true in the States, as it flopped. However, as far as nationwide notoriety goes, the movie was well-received. So well-received that it ended up going on to spawn two sequels that were just as equally as popular.

Rocky

Would you imagine that no one thought the Rocky movie wouldn’t make money? This is a movie that went on to inspire an entire franchise. Heck, there were 5 sequels that followed and movies are still being made today in its image. So, why did no one think this movie wouldn’t make money, even though it was inspired by one of the greatest underdog stories of all time? Well, to start out, it probably had a lot to do with the fact that Rocky himself, Sylvester Stallone, wrote the first draft to the movie is just three and a half days. That’s right, he had a total of $106 dollars in the bank, time on his hand, and an idea in his head. Thus spawned Rocky, inspired by the fight between Wepner and Ali. This might not have been much of a fight at the time, but it is without a doubt one that will go down in the history books, thanks to the creation of this movie.

Conclusion

Many refer to Hollywood as Hollyweird for a reason. There are not only some egotistical individuals in the industry, but it is one that is backed with true challenges. Whether it is bringing a cast and crew together or landing a lead role, there are challenges with the likes that no one has ever seen before. There are few that overcome the challenges, and the ones that do are usually the most memorable.
