New rom-com series greenlit by BBC – Committed

A brand-new romantic comedy is going to be making its way to the BBC writers room, and eventually our screens, after receiving the greenlight last week, here’s what we know about it so far:

With an already-dense cast list announced for the upcoming project for BBC Northern Ireland, more details about the series-in-progress have been released, including plot details.

What’s it about?

The storyline follows a recently-separated Canadian man who falls very hard for a woman from the north of Ireland. Despite only interacting with one another for the short span of a weekend, our protagonist crosses the Atlantic to declare his love – and succeeds. His success comes at a cost, however, as he finds he’s followed his heart to the unusual emerald landscape of a rural Irish village. Personalities clash and customs are learned as a whole new life, and home, are navigated in the name of love.

Who’s in it?

The cast has been unveiled for the series, and it’s brimming with familiar faces and talent. The cast list includes Dustin Milligan (Schitt’s Creek), Diona Doherty (Derry Girls), Ian McElhinney (Game of Thrones), Dan Gordon (Blue Lights), Muki Zubis (This is Going to Hurt),  Seamus O’Hara (House of Guinness), Patrick Buchanan (Warrior), Chris McCurry (Belfast), Athena Karkanis (The Handmaid’s Tale) and Georgie Murphy (Stumble).

Who’s behind it?

The directors for the series include Molly McGlynn (Fitting In) and Peter Huang (Nine Films About Technology). The writers include Tim Loane (Teachers), Jessie Gabe (Workin’ Moms) and Shebli Zarghami (Late Bloomer). The creators of the series are Keith Martin (Soft Border Patrol), Gerry Dee (Animal Control) and Tim Loane, who is also showrunner. Chris Martin (Nowhere Special) is the producer for the entire series. The production is a joint project between BBC Northern Ireland and CBC today.

When’s it out?

Although there’s no official specific release date for Committed, they’re currently filming it in County Down in the north of Ireland, with additional scenes shooting in Hamilton, Ontario. The series is slated to premiere on CBC and CBC Gem’s streaming service in winter 2027 and is expected to air on BBC Northern Ireland at a similar time.
