After making a name for himself on the X-Factor back in 2009, Olly Murs has gone from strength to strength. With four UK number-one singles under his belt, he’s made the most of his musical gifts by being a coach on the popular singing show The Voice and has been there for the past four years.
However, after proving his success as a coach, Murs has decided to take the next step in his career and now will be presenting ITV’s brand-new talent show, Starstruck. The role will involve the singer presenting by himself for the very first time without a co-host. His new show Starstruck is a modernised version of the iconic nineties TV show, Stars In Their Eyes.
But with The Voice being so popular, is Murs making the right decision? He is proving to be a well-liked figure on it as well as being a widely loved TV personality in general. So, will it be more of a career boost or a career blunder for the Essex-born pop star?

Popularity of The Voice
It isn’t just in the UK that The Voice is a hit with audiences. Despite originating in Holland, the television talent production is now renowned around the world. This has paved the way for many peoples’ singing careers, including Molly Hocking and Stevie McCrorie.
Two of the countries that it’s been the biggest in has been the UK and America. In Britain, the programme competes with other mainstream entertainment shows such as Strictly Come Dancing and The Cube, which makes it one of the most widely watched programmes on modern British TV.
The same goes for its triumph across the pond. Especially as in the USA, TV voting habits have shown it to be a highly admired show in North America, particularly in Yukon, Idaho and Kansas. So, it’s no surprise to see high-profile judges appear on it, including Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams.
So, as The Voice is so well-loved and has had so much success internationally, perhaps Murs needs to hope that Starstruck will be just as big.
Feeling Starstruck
Murs has been a star in his own right during his time on The Voice and has clearly been a big hit with audience members too. Yet, insiders from the new Starstruck team have spoken of Murs’ excitement about the up-and-coming project and producers are more than confident that he’s the right candidate for the job.
It’s also been said that he is raring to go and that Starstruck will be a great launchpad for his future solo presenting work. Although previously being outspoken about his worries over juggling a TV and music career, Murs is positive it’ll be a victory. Fans are very excited to see him in the solo role.
The new contest will see a judging panel of famous TV faces help transform contestants into their favourite music idols to compete for a final prize of £50,000. Filming for the new series starts this summer and lovers of Stars In Their Eyes are anticipating the reboot being just as entertaining as the original version.
Therefore, whilst The Voice is certainly a popular TV show that Murs has done well on, perhaps it’s time for him to explore new presenting and musical options.
So, tonight, Olly, you’re going to be… a hit!
