Netflix has its Kate! Bridgerton season 2 focusses on the romance between Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma played by Simone Ashley
After Bridgerton season 1, eldest brother Anthony is looking to settle down. Enter the Sharma sisters to London society. As Lady Whistledown explains:
1814 promises to be another eventful season, but not, This Author believes, for Anthony Bridgerton, London’s most elsuive bachelor, who has shown no indication that he plans to marry.
And in truth, why should he? When it comes to playing the consummate rake, nobody does it better…
—Lady Whistledown’s Society Papers, April 1814
Welcome to the second book in Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series, The Viscount Who Loved Me (and spot the James Bond echoes.) Astute fans will notice producer Shondaland has continued its reassessment of the ethnic diversity of the novels against nineteenth century history and the part of Kate Sharma replaces the novels Kate Sheffield. Kate Sharma’s family is of Indian descent. If season 2 follows the book, there will also be a younger sister cast for Kate; the book’s synopsis explains:
Anthony Bridgerton hasn’t just decided to marry—he’s even chosen a wife! The only obstacle is his intended’s older sister, Kate — the most meddlesome woman ever to grace a London ballroom. The spirited schemer is driving Anthony mad with her determination to stop the betrothal, but when he closes his eyes at night, Kate is the woman haunting his increasingly erotic dreams…
It’s all heady stuff! We believe filming is to start next month (March 2021) and we might therefore expect Bridgerton season 2 sometime around Easter 2022. Until then expect to here a lot more about Simone Ashley. You can read more on the announcement courtesy of Deadline.
