The new TV series Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance comes to Netflix as a prequel to the classic Jim Henson film in the 1980s. The series will be released days before the start of the new NFL season, on 30th August 2019, and it spiked quite a reaction since the trailer was released, just because the world creation and animation look breathtaking.

This TV Series is directed by Louis Leterrier and produced by Lisa Henson, companied by Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy and Mark Hamill to bring the series to life.

The most impressive thing on this new series is that there is no CGI included in producing the unbelievable footage and it is all done using puppets and physical sets. Everything was hand-crafted and hand-painted, from creating the astonishing world to the realistic characters. They also teamed up for this series bringing Brian Froud, who served as conceptual designer on the original film and Wendy Froud who worked on Dark Crystal in order to recreate the world once again.

As we can see in the teaser, there is war erupting between the Gelfings and the Skeksis that is caused by Gelfing named Rian witnessing the Skeksis draining the life force of a fellow Gelfing, according to Egerton. Even though we did not see too many details about the series, we can spot that in the Age of Resistance the Fizzgig which were furry little balls of hair are back which were very fun.

As we mentioned this TV series comes as a prequel to the original movie, but the directing team made sure to create the series in a way that you will not need to see the first movie in order to understand the plot. Additionally, they tried to make the new series in a new way with a young audience in mind.

“Kids these days haven’t seen puppets that look like this. This is quite different, and sometimes quite scary. It’s multi-generational. The design and look are exactly the same, you’re going to like it.” Leterrier said.

The Dark Crystal takes place many years before the original and it is about three young Gelfings as they rebel against a cruel emperor. Their world of There is dying just because the Crystal of Truth which is the heart of Thra is damaged and corrupted by the evil Skeksis as the sickness spread across the planet. As these three Gelfings find out the truth about their planet, they start the battle in order to save it.

As we mentioned earlier, the Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is backed up by brilliant actors to voice characters in the new series such as Caitriona Balfe, Helena Bonham Carter, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Toby Jones and the previously mentioned Taron Egerton, Mark Hamill and Ana Taylor-Joy which are the main characters.

The series took more than a year to film just 10 episodes and it is proved to be hard to create every scene by hand. CGI will not be used in this movie, but the team will use a green screen in order to remove the background in post-production. Netflix recently released an impressive behind-the-scenes clip, which shows the attention to detail and extraordinary creations for this movie.

The series is only one month away from the premiere and fans from all around the world are already hyped up to see the masterpiece. Hopefully, it will catch our attention as well as they did until now we’ll just have to wait and see. It is always good to see movies that are being made in old ways and still look incredible.
