You Won’t Want to Miss These Netflix Series (and Neither Will Your Partner!)

If you’re going steady in an online relationship, sooner or later, you may struggle with running out of things to talk about. What better way to relieve some of the stress than to start watching one of the many great TV shows on Netflix? Not only will this give you two something to talk about, but it also serves as a great date idea—the classic “Netflix and Chill”!

We’ve prepared a cool list of movies and shows for you to explore while cuddling under a blanket or separately with a constant connection through Zoom (keep it up, and don’t let quarantine restrictions get to you!). And if you want to find a partner? Try online dating and read these tips to know more about relationships and how to start watching films with your soulmate.

You can tell a lot about a person from their taste in TV shows, so by figuring out which ones you like (and which ones you don’t), you’ll be able to make educated guesses on if the relationship will work out when talking to someone for the first time. Another bonus? “What Netflix shows do you like?” serves as a great icebreaker, so it’s a great conversation-starter for when you’re not quite sure what to say. Without further ado, let’s take a look at a few of our Netflix favorites (and one non-Netflix bonus)!

Dead to Me

If you and your partner enjoy a bit of crime and mystery mixed in with a fair amount of humor, the chances are good you’ll both like the Netflix show “Dead to Me.” The show centers around Jen Harding, a middle-aged realtor who’s recently lost her husband due to a hit-and-run. Early on, she meets a woman, Judy Hale, in her grief support group. The two quickly become friends, but things start to get dicey when it’s revealed that Judy may have played a large role in the hit-and-run death of Jen’s husband. This show will easily have you binge-watching and laughing together as you attempt to piece together the plethora of complications that plague the two new friends.

Le Case de Papel

“Le Case de Palel,” or “Money Heist,” as it’s known in English, is a daring crime drama that’s sure to have both you and your partner at the edge of your seats! This five-part series centers around the main character, “Tokyo,” and her role in a €2.4 billion heist from the Royal Mint of Spain. Holed up inside the building with 67 hostages, this series covers their 11-day struggle to successfully mint the stolen money while fending off police forces. After the initial heist, the story goes on to cover a second heist, this time at the Bank of Spain. Suspenseful, entertaining, and full of action, the cliff-hanger endings spread throughout the series will keep you coming back for more!

The Umbrella Academy

If your partner is familiar with Dark Horse Comics, then they may already be familiar with this Dark Horse superhero series. As the story goes, 43 women (who were not pregnant beginning the day) gave birth at 12:00 noon on October 1, 1989. Seven of these mystery children are adopted by a man named Sir Reginald Hargreeves, who plans on assembling them into a superhero team known as The Umbrella Club. Fast forward 17 years later—one child has died, their father is dead, and an unknown force threatens to unleash the apocalypse only 8 days later. This action-packed story follows the superpowered children as they struggle to save the world, all the while dealing with internal family struggles that pulled them apart in the first place.

If you’re not subscribed to Netflix, then consider our bonus Hulu series instead!

The Handmaid’s Tale

Set in a (not-too-distant) dystopian future, this series takes place in a totalitarian society that has come about as a result of the Second American Civil War. In this new society, surviving fertile women have been labeled as “Handmaids,” a role that consists of submitting to ritualized rape in order to bear children for their higher-class, male masters. Though extremely bleak, this series tells a compelling story of the struggles of a Handmaid named Offred (originally named June Osborne). Assigned to the family of a government Commander, Offred wants nothing more than to be reunited with her husband and her daughter, who she was ripped away from at the beginning of the series. If you and your partner enjoy thought-provoking, dystopian tales surrounding the struggles of a lower class, then you’re sure to have a good chat (or more!) after watching this Hulu Original.

Hopefully, you’ve found a show or two you’ve loved on our list! If not, no worries—there are tons of other shows (and movies) available on popular online streaming services like Netflix and Hulu. If you are alone in your preferences on Netflix, then it’s time to look for the same like-minded person like you, maybe at various services for online dating. Very soon, the premiere of the most anticipated series could be happening; the fan-favorites change every year!
