Irish actor Andrew Scott returns as Moriarty in the second series of BBC One’s Sherlock early next year, following his debut as the arch-villain in Series 1’s The Great Game.

Starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as Dr John Watson, Series 2 will feature three 90-minute episodes – A Scandal in Belgravia, The Hounds of Baskerville and The Reichenbach Fall.

CultBox recently caught up with Andrew to ask him questions sent in by fans on Twitter. Our exclusive interview will be published shortly before Series 2 airs, but here are a few answers in the meantime…

@Cobbledstories asks: What initially attracted you to the role of Moriarty?

“It’s always the scripts really. I read the scripts and thought they were absolutely wonderful. It’s very hard to find something that’s of a really high quality that people also like to watch. The scripts were totally original and, of course, I knew Moriarty as a character.”

@bethanyryleeee asks: Do you have any tips for people who want to get into acting?

“I would say just to try and do it a lot. I didn’t train as an actor, I was lucky, I started out quite young. But I think the biggest thing I would say is to enjoy it; it’s supposed to be a very enjoyable thing.

“The best acting tip I could give someone is that it’s very important to listen to the other actor.”

@gailmduggan asks: What did you see in the ink blot tests in the scene in Dead Bodies?

“I have no idea! What an interesting question! I cannot remember, that was so long ago, I have no idea!”

@chieko asks: Do you have any plans to do more theatre work?

“I’m going to be doing some filming projects, but I don’t like to leave it too long before doing a theatre project, so probably sometime next year, yeah. Definitely within the next year.”

@belpita asks: What else have you got coming up?

“We’re just in the middle of finalising stuff, but one is a film and the other is a drama for the BBC.”

Lastly, we also had tons of messages on Twitter asking us to say ‘happy birthday’ for tomorrow…

“Aw, that’s so sweet! Oh my God, that’s really sweet, that means a lot to me. Thank you very much to all the people who said ‘happy birthday’!”
