Ewan McGregor and a frankly magnificent soup strainer star in the literary adaptation.

Ahead of its March 29th launch, Paramount+ have debuted the official trailer for A Gentleman in Moscow.

The series, led by Ewan McGregor, adapts the best-selling novel by Amor Towles.

Here’s the synopsis:

The series follows the character of Count Alexander Rostov, a man whose lavish lifestyle is his downfall following the Russian Revolution.

Deemed an enemy of the state, he manages to avoid execution only to be confined by a Soviet tribunal to a small attic room in the grand Hotel Metropol, under the threat of death if he leaves the premises.

Trapped within the hotel’s walls as historic upheavals rage outside, Rostov’s diminished existence becomes a journey of emotional awakening.

Over decades, he forges a new existence that opens his eyes to the essence of friendship, the bonds of family, and the enduring power of love – all within the hotel’s confines.

McGregor stars alongside Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Ahsoka), who appears as the self-made film actress Anna Urbanova. Alexa Goodall plays Nina, Alexandar’s young confidant. Johnny Harris is the secret police officer Osip, while Fehinti Balogun appears as Alexander’s best friend from university, Mishka.

Also in the cast are Leah Harvey, Paul Ready, John Heffernan, Lyès Salem, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson, Dee Ahluwalia, Anastasia Hille, Daniel Cerqueira, Leah Balmforth, Billie Gadsdon and Beau Gadsdon.

Fascinatingly, given the Poirot levels of moustachery at play, we understand that Kenneth Branagh was originally linked to the role.

The eight-part series comes from Entertainment One, Popcorn Storm Pictures and Lionsgate Television in association with Paramount.

Ben Vanstone (All Creatures Great and Small) is the writer, showrunner and he also executive produces. As does Tom Harper of Popcorn Storm Pictures, McGregor, Sharon Hughff, Pancho Mansfield, Xavier Marchand and Amor Towles.
