It’s nearly time to return to Darrowby for a slice of wartime veterinary action.
Channel 5 have announced the return date for its popular reinvention of All Creatures Great and Small.
The modern iteration of the show, now in its fifth year, is back on Thursday, 19th September 2024.
The show’s official synopsis tells us that series five “…will continue to bring the stories of James Herriot to life as we return to Darrowby to rejoin our unconventional much loved Skeldale Family and the colourful ensemble of farmers, animals and townsfolk living in the Yorkshire Dales in the 1940s.”
As the story continues, we’re still in the midst of WWII. While Helen holds the fort at home with their new baby, James is away with the RAF.
We can also expect an appearance from Tristan Farnon, now serving in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps.
The cast
Nicholas Ralph returns as James Herriot, with Rachel Shenton as Helen and Samuel West as Siegfried Farnon. Anna Madeley plays Mrs Hall, with James Anthony-Rose as Richard Carmody. Callum Woodhouse is Tristan Farnon and Patricia Hodge plays Mrs Pumphrey with her pampered Pekingese Tricki.
All Creatures Great and Small series 5 runs for six episodes, followed by a Christmas Special – ahead of the same for the already commissioned series 6, presumably in 2025.
In the UK, you can stream the first four series from My5. In the US, the show is found on PBS Masterpiece.
