Ally – cast announced for Bong Joon Ho’s animated film

Ally will be Bong Joon Ho’s first animated film, announcements have been made about who to expect to star in it – here’s what we know:

With works like Snowpiercer and Parasite under his belt, Bong Joon Ho has garnered an audience across the entire globe. With his next project being his debut into the animated world, there’s a lot of expectant eyes on the legendary director.

What’s Ally about?

The feature film will follow the story of a young and inquisitive piglet squid living in the murky depths of the South Pacific. Her aspirations in life are twofold, see the sun and feature as the main character in a nature documentary. Her life is thrown into disarray when an aircraft unceremoniously crashes into her oceanic home, her entire ecosystem is suddenly full of danger. Little does Ally know, something sinking into her world will give her the push she needs to make it to the surface.

This isn’t Ho’s first foray into using animals within his storytelling, with Okja featuring an animated creature as part of the live-action world.

Who’s in it?

The cast of this upcoming film features a lot of recognisable names and voices. This list includes Ayo Edebiri (The Bear), Bradley Cooper (A Star is Born), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), Alex Jayne Go (Searching), Rachel House (Moana) and Werner Herzog (Fitzcarraldo).

When’s it out?

The current production timeline claims that the film will be released in the later half of 2027.
