Cannes is bringing brand new projects to the headlines, including an upcoming drama with seasoned and upcoming talent attached, here’s what we know about The Species:

Plenty of stars and projects are coming up to the surface as the market at Cannes festival, in the middle of this whirlwind, a certain project has stirred up some extra interest thanks to the sparkling cast list slowly being revealed as development progresses.

What’s The Species about?

Following the death of renowned English naturalist Charles Darwin, this drama will follow his wife, Emma, at the heart of a fight over his autobiography. She finds herself facing off against her own son and a persistent publisher as his work is atheist to the point it challenges her foundational belief about the world and could change how a theistic society reacts to the family name. The most important question weighs on her mind, will publishing his work put it in the eyes of god and effect the family’s passage to heaven?

The current cast includes Mia McKenna-Bruce (How to Have Sex), Anthony Hopkins (The Father), Charlotte Rampling (Broadchurch) and Tom Hollander (The Night Manager).

Who’s behind it?

The upcoming project comes from Justin Chadwick (Bleak House), written by Jacob Killion (Revision).
