Bridgerton scores a dozen Emmy Award nominations, but which ones might it win?
If we look back at Bridgerton, our immediate thoughts as to its many strengths include casting, costume, cinematography, set design/ dressing and good use of contemporary music in a historic setting. The Emmy Award Nominations for 2021 reflect some of this, with the show being nominated for:
Outstanding Production Design For A Narrative Period Or Fantasy Program (for After the Rain)
Outstanding Casting For A Drama Series
Outstanding Cinematography For A Single-Camera Series (One Hour)
Outstanding Period Costumes
Outstanding Directing For A Drama Series
Outstanding Period And/Or Character Hairstyling
Outstanding Music Composition For A Series (Original Dramatic Score)
Outstanding Music Supervision
Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music
Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series Regé-Jean Page as Simon Basset
Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance
Outstanding Drama Series
Where do we thing Bridgerton will score a win?
There are too many nominations to cover them all, so we’ll go with one that match our short list.
Cast
We liked the casting, but in the general category it’s up against The Mandalorian, The Crown, The Handmaid’s Tale, The Mandalorian, Queen’s Gambit, Wandavision and others. This looks like a struggle to us, and at a push tip The Crown to win here.
As for Lead Actor, Regé-Jean Page is up against a few other strong contenders, but we think this is his time.
Costume
Here the show is up against The Crown and Queen’s Gambit amongst others. While we did like the costumes in the latter, again this looks like a good chance for Bridgerton.
Cinematography
In many regards the rain /after the rain sequence in Bridgerton was an astonishing scene, and it has stayed with us since. We see the main contenders as The Mandalorian and Queen’s Gambit.
Music
Bridgerton is up for two awards here, and we feel it has a good chance of one of them.
Elsewhere
Someone has to win Outstanding Drama Series, but it’s a very crowded field, with a lot of very strong (and varied) contenders. We don’t see it winning here, but you never know.
We’ll check back when the winners are announced later this year.
