You’ll be able to listen to it this Friday…

A new audio episode of the Beeb’s Car Share is coming to iPlayer on Friday (10th April). The one-off special has been written by Peter Kay, Sian Gibson and Paul Coleman in a bid to offer people some much-needed laughs during the UK’s coronavirus quarantine period.

Car Share was a very popular series which centred on supermarket assistant manager John Redmond (Kay) and promotions rep Kayleigh Kitson (Gibson) as they coped with their work’s car-sharing scheme. It finished with two well-received special episodes in May, 2018, the latter of which was watched by 8.8 million people.

“Sian Gibson, Paul Coleman and myself got together via t’internet and wrote a new short episode of Car Share in an effort to try cheer people up,” Kay said in a statement. “It’s all happened very quickly, in fact it didn’t exist a week ago. Obviously we weren’t able to film anything because of the lockdown but I hope people will use their imagination and enjoy listening. Here’s hoping people enjoying having John & Kayleigh back. Lord knows we need it right now.”

BBC comedy controller Shane Allen added: “We can’t thank Peter enough for giving up his time and effort to make this extra special treat happen in donating some much-needed cheer to everybody for free.”
