Cast announced for Diane Morgan’s new show – Ann Droid

The BBC has announced the cast and story for Diane Morgan’s new comedy, Ann Droid. Here’s what we know so far.

Known for her work as Philomena Cunk, we’ve watch Diane Morgan evolve from her origins on Screenwipe, to the Cunk On series, and her work as Mandy. The BBC has started filming her new series, Ann Droid (w/t). Here’s a breakdown of what we know about it so far.

What’s it about?

Ann Droid (w/t) will follow the story of a single mother with an adult son on the cusp of moving out in the year 2029. The son gifts her a second-hand humanoid robot to take care of his mother so she doesn’t have to live on her own. The AnnDroid Z58/100 was invented to take care of the ageing population in the UK, taking some of the pressure off the ever-bottlenecked NHS.

The relationship between woman and robot is a strained one, with AnnDroid seemingly being overbearing and socially inept. The gift is only accepted once she realises she can use the robot to settle some old scores…

Who’s in it?

Starring alongside Diane Morgan will be Sue Johnston (The Royle Family) and Paul Ready (Motherland).

Who’s behind it?

Diane Morgan will be writing the series alongside Sarah Kendall (Frayed) and it’ll be directed by Joe Roberts (Power of Parker).

When’s it out?

There’s no release date as of yet, the series will be released on BBC iPlayer and BBC One.
