The spirit of franchise revival is still very much alive in the latest updates for John Rambo, more cast announcements have been made so here’s what we know so far:

Roles have been announced for the John Rambo project after it’s finished filming in Thailand recently. The characters and cast members have been revealed in batches, as well as story details for curious fans.

What’s it about?

This project takes on the task of providing an origin story for the Rambo franchise. What was once considered a cult hit action film has since expanded into its own multi-film franchise, with John Rambo being the latest addition. This particular story will take place before the 1982 film First Blood. It’ll provide a foundation for the Vietnam vet who survived all other members of his unit, becoming entangled with corrupt police and drug cartels. The titular character provides an interesting mix of trauma and combat expertise, with this latest project potentially allowing fans to witness the formation of his skills as well as the beginnings of his trauma.

Who’s in it?

David Harbour (Stranger Things) is the latest addition to the cast, a controversial figure thanks to the very public split from music star Lily Allen, who has recently gone on tour with an album inspired by his infidelity. Additional cast members include Noah Centineo (To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before), Yao (Sinners), Jason Tobin (A Thousand Blows), Quincy Isaiah (Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty), Jefferson White (Yellowstone) and Tayme Thapthimthong (The White Lotus).

Who’s behind it?

The film will be directed by Jalmari Helander (Sisu). No release date has been announced yet.
