Walt Disney Studios hopes to release Cruella in May 2021 and has a released a trailer for the film

Academy Award winner Emma Stone (La La Land) is the star of Cruella, an all-new live-action feature film about the rebellious early days of one of cinemas most notorious – and notoriously fashionable – villains, the legendary Cruella de Vil. Set in 1970s London amidst the punk rock revolution, the film follows a young grifter named Estella, a clever and creative girl determined to make a name for herself with her designs. She befriends a pair of young thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they are able to build a life for themselves on the London streets.

One day, Estella’s flair for fashion catches the eye of the Baroness von Hellman (Emma Thompson), a fashion legend who is devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute. But their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable and revenge-bent Cruella.

The film also stars Mark Strong, Emily Beecham, Paul Walter Hauser and Joel Fry. The intention is the film will be released in theatres on May 28, subject (of course) to change. It may yet be released to stream at the same time.

101 Dalmations was a 1956 novel by Dodie Smith and one if Disney’s most enduring animations released in 1961. A live action version starring Glenn Close in the title role was released in 1996. Victoria Smurfit took the part in the TV series Once Upon a Time. From the trailer (and it’s always hard to judge) this has the potential to be one of the hits of the year and the moving to the ’70s punk scene has the potential to succeed.
