Here’s the first chance to see Joseph Fiennes as Gareth Southgate in Dear England
Based on James Graham’s play of the same name, the series is coming to BBC iPlayer and BBC One in 2026.
What is Dear England, and who else stars
The four-part series is based on James Graham’s Olivier-award winning play of the same name about Gareth Southgate and the England men’s football team. As the latest press release says:
With the worst team track record for penalties in the world when he takes over as manager, Gareth knows he needs to open his mind and face up to the years of hurt to take England back to the promised land. The country that gave the world football has delivered a painful pattern of loss. Why can’t the England team win at their own game?
Joseph Fiennes (The Handmaid’s Tale, Shakespeare in Love) will reprise his Olivier award nominated role as Gareth Southgate. Jodie Whittaker (Toxic Town) as England men’s team psychologist Pippa Grange, whilst Will Antenbring (Mr Loverman) is Harry Kane.

The press release lists more of the large cast of players and FA officials. The 4×60 series arrives in 2026.
