Fawlty Towers celebrates its 50th anniversary this September.
To mark the occasion U&Gold – who regularly air the original 12 episodes – have lined up something rather special. They’re going to air a recording of the show’s acclaimed West End stage adaptation.
Fawlty Towers: The Play
The stage show comes from the classic sitcom’s original co-writer and star John Cleese. It draws on three material from three original episodes – ‘The Hotel Inspector’, ‘The Germans’ and ‘Communication Problems.’
This recording, produced by Phil McIntyre Television, stars Adam Jackson-Smith as Basil, Anna-Jane Casey as Sybil, Hemi Yeroham as Manuel and Victoria Fox as Polly.

The play opened in the West End in May 2024 and ran for almost a year. After a short break, it’s back again at the Apollo Theatre until September, after which heads out on a UK and Ireland tour.
John Cleese said:
“I’ve been overwhelmed by the wonderful response to Fawlty Towers: The Play since its debut in the West End and it’s a pleasure to hear U&Gold will be bringing it straight to everyone’s living rooms just in time for the 50th anniversary”.
We’ll keep you posted on the transmission date for Fawlty Towers: The Play.
