Dr Crane’s former radio show producer will join him in Boston.
As production progresses on the new run of Frasier, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the show will feature original cast member Peri Gilpin in a guest star role. Gilpin played Roz Doyle on the original series, Frasier Crane’s feisty radio producer.
She joins Bebe Neuwirth, who’s also returning in her role as Frasier’s ex-wife Lilith. Neuwrith originally starred as Lilith on Cheers, then reprised the role twelve times during Frasier’s 11-year run.)
The new iteration of Frasier sees Dr Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) returning to Boston to start a new chapter. There, he’ll face new challenges, forge new relationships and possibly fulfil an old dream or two.
New Faces
The show’s new regular cast includes Jack Cutmore-Scott as Frasier and Lilith’s son Freddy and Anders Keith as his nephew David (son of Niles and Daphne). Plus, there’s Nicholas Lyndhurst as Alan Cornwall, Toks Olagundoye as Olivia, and Jess Salgueiro as Eve, Freddy’s roommate.
While Peri Gilpin and Bebe Neuwrith are guesting, there are no suggestions of any other familiar faces. David Hyde Pierce has ruled himself out as Niles and there’s been no mention of Jane Leeves, who played Daphne. Sadly, John Mahoney who played Martin Crane died in 2018. However, there are a number of potential guest star returnees from the original cast of Cheers, all of whom popped up during Frasier‘s original run.
The Frasier revival comes from CBS Studios and Kelsey Grammer’s Grammnet NH Productions. Its writers are Chris Harris and Joe Cristalli, who executive produce with Grammer, Tom Russo and Jordan McMahon.
Veteran Frasier director James Burrows has returned to helm the first two episodes, with the 10-part season set to stream on Paramount+.
