The BBC has unveiled a new promotional photo for BBC Two’s upcoming Doctor Who 50th anniversary drama.
Written by Mark Gatiss, An Adventure in Space and Time will tell “the story of the genesis of Doctor Who – first aired on 23 November 1963 – and the many personalities involved”.
David Bradley (Harry Potter) will play the first Doctor, William Hartnell, while Brian Cox (The Bourne Identity) will play the BBC’s Head of Drama Sydney Newman, credited with the creation of the show, and Call the Midwife star Jessica Raine will play producer Verity Lambert. Sacha Dhawan (Last Tango In Halifax) will play the director of the first ever episode, ‘An Unearthly Child’, Waris Hussein.
Gatiss commented: “David Bradley brings every ounce of his talent, humour and presence to the role of William Hartnell. It’s a wonderfully touching and subtle performance and I’m immensely proud of both him and the film.”
