Written by executive producer Steven Moffat, the 60-minute festive special will be called The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe and is expected to air on Christmas day.

The official synopsis reads: “Evacuated to a house in Dorset from war-torn London, Madge Arwell and her two children, Lily and Cyril, are greeted by a madcap caretaker whose mysterious Christmas gift leads them into a magical wintry world.”

The first trailer for the special was revealed as part of last Friday’s Children In Need appeal on BBC One.
