Game of Thrones film – Title and release timeline announced

The newest addition to the ever-expanding Game of Thrones universe is Aegon’s Conquest, details on the film have been announced, including a release date. Here’s what we know about it so far:

Since the extremely popular fantasy series Game of Thrones has drawn to a close, the world has kept growing beyond the series that started it all. With House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms continuing to tell stories and add detail to the history and lore of Game of ThronesAegon’s Conquest has been underway and is set to join the expanded storytelling in a brand-new medium for the franchise.

What’s it about?

Little is known about the project in terms of the exact storyline, but it is known that it will follow the character Aegon I Targaryen during his conquest of now-familiar landscape of Westeros. These events made up the contents of George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, which details the rise of the kingdom’s early rulers . It focusses on power struggles and the origins behind the iconic Iron Throne. The book also depicts the introduction of the fan-favourite creature, dragons – going into historic turning points such as the Dance of the Dragons civil war.

It’s still unknown how many of these events will be depicted and to what degree, as the move away from episodic to feature film storytelling puts a time limit on the story of Aegon’s Conquest.

Who’s behind it?

Beau Willimon (House of Cards), has been attached to the project as a writer. Willimon has a strong track record in the world of TV, working as a showrunner on House of Cards and as a writer on Andor. Under the mammoth workload from TV, Willimon also has experience in the world of film, including screenplay credits on The Ides of March and Mary Queen of Scots.

When’s it out?

The current announcement puts this particular project’s release in WarnerBros.’ 2027 and Beyond slate, giving a timeline that’s hard for production to miss.
