For anyone who grew up during the late 90s/early 00s, SM:TV Live was the great unifier.
A show that not only launched the presenting careers of Ant & Dec, but is fondly remembered by an entire generation (and their parents) for entertaining them in increasingly bizarre and surreal ways every Saturday morning.
And it’s coming back! Sort of. The show is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and to mark a special reunion has been planned.
Speaking with Radio Times after the National Television Awards, Ant & Dec revealed that many of the original team will be getting back together for the show, planned for late summer.
Ant said: “I think we’ve just booked a studio, I think we’ve got some writers involved. So we’re kind of at that stage really. We’ll start trying to book guests and have some fun with it now.”
Cat Deeley, who hosted the show alongside the boys, told DigitalSpy: “I think that the big elements of the show will be there, like Chums, Wonkey Donkey, Cat the Dog – all of those will be on there.
“My dream would be for everyone to sit in their pyjamas until lunchtime, having pyjama parties – SM:TV pyjama parties, with mimosas and bloody Marys, and relive our youth. And we won’t do text-in competitions, we will still do phone-ins because then Dec can really abuse [the callers] when they get Wonkey Donkey wrong!”
