Homegrown series including The Crown, Sherlock and Black Mirror were all nominated for Primetime Emmy Awards in this week’s announcement.
While The Crown won a huge 13 nods across acting (for series star Claire Foy), directing (Stephen Daldry), writing (Peter Morgan) and technical categories, Black Mirror’s Charlie Brooker scored a nomination for writing and Sherlock’s ‘The Lying Detective’ for four categories including Best TV Movie.
Hugh Laurie was nominated for his guest appearance in Veep, while Brits including Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), Riz Ahmed (Girls), Thandie Newton (Westworld) and David Thewlis (Fargo) received their first nominations for television work in the past year.
British comedy expats James Corden and John Oliver will compete in the Variety Talk Series category.
