After Life, a Netflix original comedy-drama from Ricky Gervais, has officially been renewed for a second season. Here’s everything you need to know…
After Life follows Tony, played by Gervais, a local newspaper journalist that seriously struggles following the death of his wife. After deciding not to take his own life, Tony vows to punish the world by becoming a rude, unfiltered version of himself.
Gervais has been getting a lot of positive write-ups for After Life season 1, with particular praise falling on his portrayal of pain and loss in the show. For example, the first series of After Life has been heralded in some quarters as a triumph for mental health representation on screen.
Inspired, presumably, by this hugely positive response, Netflix has officially ordered After Life season 2, which will bring six new episodes to the screen next year.
“I have never had a reaction like this before,” says Gervais in an official press release. “It’s been insane. And heartwarming.”
Netflix’s content boss, Ted Sarandos, adds this: “We are so proud to play host to Ricky’s brilliant stand up comedy, specials, original films, and series and join in the joy of the fans with his latest hit.”
After Life season 2 will arrive in 2020, and we’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
