Visionary director J.A. Bayona has signed up to direct the first two episodes of Amazon’s The Lord Of The Rings TV show. Here’s all the info you need to know…
Bayona previously directed the feature films The Orphanage, A Monster Calls, The Impossible and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Of those, A Monster Calls stands out as a fantastic example of Bayona’s ability to blend human stories with compelling CGI creations.
This skillset could come in handy on Amazon’s The Lord Of The Rings, which is currently gearing up for a shoot in New Zealand. The show will cover the Second Age of Tolkien’s LOTR lore, which means it will take place before the events of The Fellowship Of The Ring.
Bayona said this about landing the gig: “J.R.R. Tolkien created one of the most extraordinary and inspiring stories of all time, and as a lifelong fan it is an honor and a joy to join this amazing team. I can’t wait to take audiences around the world back to Middle-earth and have them discover the wonders of the Second Age, with a never-before-seen story.”
The writing of the series is being headed up by Bryan Cogman, who previously wrote and executive produced on Game Of Thrones.
We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
