Filming has begun for the fifth series of Charlie Brooker’s dark anthology series, Black Mirror. This will be the third run of the show to be produced by Netflix, after the streaming service purchased the series from the UK broadcaster Channel 4.
Standout episodes since the Netflix takeover include the romantic afterlife episode San Junipero, the Star Trek-inspired U.S.S. Callister, and the Letitia Wright-starring Black Museum.
The news that filming has started on Black Mirror series 5 comes straight from the horse’s mouth. Charlie Brooker and his co-showrunner Annabel Jones picked up a special judges’ prize at Royal Television Society Awards, and Brooker offered this update to the press:
“Season five, we are filming one [episode] at the moment […] We are about to start filming another one imminently. I’m writing the next one and then it gets a bit more foggy.”
We haven’t seen any episode titles or cast announcements for Black Mirror season 5 as of yet, so its impossible to say exactly what is being filmed. But it’s good to know that production is already underway, and the process of getting more Black Mirror episodes into our eyeballs has begun.
As we hear more about Black Mirror season 5, we’ll be sure to let you know.
