Co-created and written by Paul Unwin, the six-part series aired last year and starred Jack Davenport (Smash, Coupling) as Otto Powell, “a brilliant and charismatic surgeon, who passionately believes he can make a difference to women’s lives, even if that means risking imprisonment under the abortion laws of 1961.”

Actress Zoe Boyle, who played Jean Truscott in the show, confirmed to Radio Times that Breathless has “unfortunately” not been recommissioned for a second series, but commented: “I loved the part and I loved the script and I loved the show as a whole.”
