Sad news, this. The Doctor Who Experience is to close after the summer. Before that, though, it has a holiday season packed with tours and activities.
After a five-year tenure in Cardiff, it was announced to day that it will soon be time for the Doctor Who Experience to close. However, visitors will be able to join in with a number of special events before the exhibition finally shuts its doors on 9th September.
For example, the Experience’s Walking Tours begin again on 8th July, offering a 75 minute walk in and around Cardiff Bay. Along the way, patrons will be guided around “sites from Series 10 and memorable locations from previous series.”
Other series 10 content will also be added into the Experience soon. Indeed, a new exhibition is being unveiled on same date, including props, costumes, and sets from Series 10. That will then compliment the Peter Capaldi and Pearl Mackie costumes that are already part of the exhibition.
Also on that day, the model expert Mike Tucker will also be on hand to reveal the final, renovated ‘Web of Fear’ Yeti. The classic series monster has now been returned to its former glory after a fan vote selected it as the costume they’d most like to see restored.
If Doctor Who monsters are your thing, July 22nd has a special, and final, Monster Event. Aptly, considering the subject of the final two series 10 episodes, the Cybermen will be the theme. The day will offer workshops and Q&A sessions with monster-makers, Millennium FX; a chance for fans to be converted into Cybermen; as well as live Mondasian Cybermen roaming the Experience floor. The day will be completed with a viewing of the final two-part episode, due to air on BBC One on 24th June & 1st July.
Later in the holidays, on the 5th August, there will be “the biggest Doctor Who Experience Cosplay Celebration yet”. Fans will be invited and encouraged to visit dressed as their favourite Doctor Who character or monster.
Tickets for the final run of events go on sale from Friday, June 16th at doctorwhoexperience.com. That’s where you’ll also find news of additional events and features planned for the final weeks of the Experience.
