BBC One has revealed the cast for Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio’s new adaptation of DH Lawrence’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover, from the makers of Sherlock.
Holliday Grainger (Tulip Fever) will play Lady Chatterley with James Norton (Happy Valley) as her war-wounded husband Sir Clifford Chatterley and Richard Madden (Game Of Thrones) as gamekeeper Oliver Mellors.
Written and directed by Jed Mercurio, the 90-minute drama will air on BBC One in 2015 as part of the channel’s season of classic 20th century literature, which includes adaptations of LP Hartley’s The Go-Between, Laurie Lee’s memoir Cider With Rosie and J B Priestley’s classic play An Inspector Calls.
Mercurio commented: “I’m hugely flattered that such a fabulously talented young cast will bring these iconic roles to life.”
The original 1928 edition of Lady Chatterley’s Lover was censored in Britain for over 30 years after it was written and is regarded as one of the most sexually pioneering novels of the 20th century.
Executive producer Beryl Vertue added: “I am delighted to be working with [producer] Serena Cullen who developed this exciting project, and Jed’s great screenplay has enabled us to attract these fine actors.”
Produced by Sherlock creators Hartswood Films, Lady Chatterley’s Lover will begin filming in October on location in Wales.
